Concert Series: March-November 2022

 Howdenshire Music Project's monthly free Thursday lunchtime concert series begins on Thursday 21 April 2022. 

We will also be presenting three additional, very special musical events on Saturdays during 2022 (Sat 26 March, Sat 9 July & Sat 8 October) in addition to our regular monthly lunchtime concerts - please see below for more details.

Duncan Honeybourne enjoys a colourful and diverse career as a pianist. Following concerto debuts in 1998 at Symphony Hall, Birmingham and the National Concert Hall, Dublin, he made recital debuts in London, Dublin, Paris, and at international festivals in Belgium and Switzerland. His 2012 debut recital disc was described by Gramophone magazine as “not to be missed by all lovers of English music”, whilst BBC Music Magazine reported: “There are gorgeous things here. Hard to imagine better performances.”

Michael Foyle launched his career by winning The Netherlands Violin Competition 2016. His London debut followed with a recital at the Wigmore Hall (‘superlative’ – Seen and Heard International) and since then he has performed recitals in the UK’s most prestigious venues, including Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Buckingham Palace, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Bridgewater Hall and Usher Hall, regularly being broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

One of Britain’s most creative and distinctive pianists, Julian Jacobson is acclaimed for the vitality, colour and insight he brings to his enormous repertoire ranging across all styles and periods. In a career spanning five decades he has performed extensively in more than 40 countries as well as maintaining an intensive UK concert and recording schedule.

At the age of 19, Nicolò Biemmi graduated with distinction from the Conservatorio Luca Marenzio di Brescia, Italy. He is currently a William Waterhouse Bassoon Scholar at the Royal Northern College of Music. Nicolò has played as a soloist and in orchestras around the world including the UK, Italy, France, Germany, China and Switzerland.

During his illustrious career, Martin Roscoe has become one of the UK’s most loved and respected pianists. Martin appears regularly at Wigmore Hall and has long-standing associations with many of the UK’s leading orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic and BBC Scottish Symphony. 

A mixed instrument chamber ensemble, I Musicanti comprises some of the most experienced and respected musicians to be found in the UK, hand picked by the group’s artistic director, international double bass virtuoso Leon Bosch.

Anthony has played with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, C.B.S.O., the Hallé, Manchester Camerata, New European Orchestra and the Royal Northern Sinfonia. He has also performed with the Fine Arts Brass Ensemble, Lesley Garrett, Hayley Westenra, The Sixteen with Harry Christophers, Liam McNally, London Community Gospel Choir, Steve Winwood, duetted with Sting and played for Pope Benedict XVI!

Originally from Cheshire, Emily Christina Loftus is a soprano currently making a name for herself across the UK and abroad. She recently graduated with Distinction from the Royal College of Music and in 2021 sang Pamina for Opera North’s touring performance of The Magic Flute.

Violinist Charlotte Rowan attended America’s Peabody Conservatory and performs as a recitalist and concerto soloist throughout America and Britain. Her previous visit to Howden ended in a standing ovation and she has been praised for her ‘dazzling performances and impassioned mastery of the violin’.

Chopin Day: concerts and talks featuring international pianists Matthew, Rose, Callum & Murray McLachlan and Kathryn Page

Murray McLachlan combines a multifaceted career as concert pianist, recording artist, writer, lecturer, and music educator. He has performed to critical acclaim on all five continents, has a discography of over 40 releases, and is also Founder/Artistic Director of the world-famous Chetham’s International Summer School for Pianists. He is joined by members of the McLachlan family - all outstanding concert pianists in their own rights - to celebrate the glorious piano music of Chopin.

Giulia Contaldo, piano

Award-winning Italian concert pianist Guilia Contaldo studied in Florence and at the Royal Northern College of Music. In 2021 she was selected to take part in the Leeds International Piano Competition, and also performed Beethoven's fourth Piano Concerto with the Manchester Camerata.
